4th 9 Weeks Learning Opportunities

We are offering 2 academic choices to ensure your child receives the best possible educational opportunities during this school closure. Beginning April 7, 2020, your child can do one of the following options:

Choice 1: Edmentum/Exact Path-Students already know how to log on to Edmentum through CLEVER by going to RET's website and getting on ONLY TWO CLICKS, click on the Edmentum tab at the top. Third through fifth grade students will have a reading and math assignment in EDMENTUM. Please try to complete the assignments at a steady pace as to not allow any frustration for you or your student. For grading purposes, all assignments must be completed by 5/21/2020. Edmentum can also be used to help students continue on their instructional path by earning trophies and developing skills.

Choice 2: Pick up a grade level packet from the school office. Packets will be available for pick-up beginning Tuesday, April 7th between 9:00-12:00. These packets cover Reading and Math for the 4th 9 weeks. Please try to complete the assignments at a steady pace as to not allow any frustration for you or your student. For grading purposes, all assignments must be completed by 5/21/2020. Any future packets that may be created will be for enrichment purposes only.

Additional Resources: The following resources are also available using the Clever Portal: Google Classroom- There will be a school wide Google Classroom with grade level links and activities for RET students. We may even have Library, Music, and PE activities to enhance their learning! There will also be weekly newsletter created with updates, resources, parental information, and enrichment activities. Your children are already well aware of our ONLY TWO CLICKS section of our website. There they can play educational games, code, do art activities, read books, and participate in many more activities. It is a great place to take a "break" from the lessons of the day and continue to work on skills.

If you have questions, you can access your child’s teacher one of these ways- email through the school website, classroom app (Dojo, Remind, etc) or through the Edmentum App (look for the envelope to send a direct message). Our teachers will be checking these areas throughout the school day. We are here to help. Grades will be recorded for students in order to determine a 4th nine weeks grade. The materials assigned during this time will only cover educational standards that would have been covered during the 4th nine weeks. Your child’s final average will be the average of the 1 st , 2nd , 3 rd , and 4th nine weeks as normal. Report cards: All report cards can be accessed through the parent portal of INOW. If you have an issue logging in to your child’s portal, email us for help.

Library Books: Please keep good track of library books at home, we will collect them at a later date.

School Office Hours: Office Hours are subject to change. Currently, school office hours are Monday-Thursday 9:00-1:00. However, you can reach me by email (school website) and phone (256) 389-2930 Ext.3110. All phone messages automatically go to my email so I can respond even from home.

Food Distribution: Grab & Go meals will be provided to all children 18 and under in the back parking lot of Deshler Middle School beginning Tuesday, April 7th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Monday, April 13th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am will be the next available pick up time and will then be available each Monday following. At the time of pick up, 5 breakfast and 5 lunch meals will be provided for each child that is present. Please stay in your car and drive up to receive the meals.

Chromebooks: The Tuscumbia City School System has a plan to help support families in need of technology support. Please check the TCS Website for more information.

Registration: All school registration including Kindergarten registration will begin April 7, 2020. We will still use SchoolMint for our registration platform. All appropriate paperwork will still be needed when you register.

Lastly, if you know of someone who has not joined our R. E. Thompson School Facebook page, please encourage them to do so. We will use this as a way to keep us all up to date. Thank you for your continued support. We will continue to provide the best education possible for our students.
